hsms_secsi_protocol_converter

The manual for the ErgoTech SECS1/HSMS protocol converter can be downloaded here.

The protocol converter ships with a default IP address of 192.168.5.104 . In order to configure the converter you will need to access the web server in the converter from another computer. One easy way to do this is to directly connect from a computer to the converter using an Ethernet cable. Change the IP address of the computer to be on the same network as the converter so that you can access the web pages. For example, set the IP address of your computer to 192.168.5.101.

If you are using a Windows computer this help page from Microsoft describes how to set your IP address.

Testing using ErgoTech's SECSTester

ErgoTech's SECSTester is a free SECS/GEM host that you can use to verify your connection to the tool. Simply connect the converter to your tool and configure the SECSTester. The IP address or hostname configured in the SECSTester should be the address of your converter. The device id is the value configured at your tool. More details are in the SECSTester manual.

Bench Testing using ErgoTech's SECSTester and StandaloneGEMTool

You can test the protocol converter entirely on your laptop or desktop with the ErgoTech SECSTester and StandaloneGEM tool. Please ask for copies of these if they were not provided with the converter.

The setup is in the diagram below. You run the SECS Tester and the Standalone Tool on your laptop or desktop computer. This can be Window or Linux and the documentation shows how to run on either of these platforms. You can also run the Tool and SECSTester on different computers.

Configure the Standalone Tool to communication over serial and configure the SECSTester with the IP address and port of the Protocol Converter. You do need two USB/Serial interfaces and a null modem (probably also a gender changer).
